Purchasing a Used Excavator, Dozer or Backhoe?

Quick tip for how to research purchasing used construction equipment...

When was the last time a mechanic inspected it?  Look at the engine.  Do you see any possible problems?  Such as excessive use of duct tape.  Any indication of prior fluid leakage?  How recent is the battery?  Are there any oil leaks?

Finally, check the movement of all the parts and rotate the cab.  Do they operate smoothly?

Here is an article with more information on purchasing a used excavator...

Contractors Hot Line currently has...
6,083 new or used excavators listed for sale.
3,163 new or used backhoes listed for sale.
2,893 new or used skid steer loaders listed for sale.
and of course we have many other types of new or used construction equipment...

Sincerely,

DECIDING TO PURCHASE NEW OR USED EQUIPMENT

Quick tip for deciding to purchase new or used equipment
Making the decision on what to purchase is not often easy. Everyone is well aware that new equipment comes with a hefty price tag. Used equipment is tagged with a lower price, but it is up to the purchaser to determine if it is actually going to fit his needs.
The percentage of wear factor is always an issue. If the piece is priced so that reconditioning is both time and cost effective, lower quality used equipment can be made to last and operate efficiently.

What to Remember When Looking at Backhoes For Sale

Just a quick tip for when you are looking at backhoes for sale.

With all the places that you can find backhoes for sale these days, it is important to have an idea of what you are looking for before you go shopping.  One of the major decisions is deciding whether you want to purchase new or used backhoes.

Once you feel you have narrowed down which backhoes you want to buy, don't forget that you need to make sure that the backhoe parts are readily available in case a part gets damaged, etc.  Make sure that your backhoe operator will be able to efficiently run the backhoe that you plan on purchasing.  Not all dashboards are the same on backhoes and you may not want to waste valuable time on getting your operator used to the new controls.  Where available it might be a good idea to rent a similar backhoe to test out how well your operator can use the new backhoe.

Construction Crossroads

Heavy Equipment Financing - Be Prepared

Just a quick tip on heavy equipment financing

Before purchasing, make sure that your piece of equipment covers all your needs.  It takes a lot of planning and a lot of time to finance your heavy equipment.

Also remember that just because you can get financing, doesn't mean you can handle the monthly payment financially.  Make sure you know the maximum dollar amount that you can handle.  Also keep in mind that if you can only barely meet the monthly payment, it will more than likely stay that way for as long as you have the loan.  Don't over do it.

Make sure to bring all the necessary paperwork, including the information on the heavy equipment you need financing on.  As with any financing method, you will need financial records.  If you're not sure what the lending company needs, just give them a call so that you don't waste your time with multiple trips to the lender's office.
